Mumbai lies on the Arabian Sea on the west side of India

Mumbai lies on the Arabian Sea on the west side of India. It is the largest and most densely populated city in India with strong contrasts between rich and poor - at the same time Mumbai is quite modern and western by Indian standards, so that the contrasts become even clearer.

Nevertheless, Mumbai is a good "gateway" for travellers to India, as one can both find familiar things and discover new ones.
Mumbai is the home of "Bollywood", one of the largest film production sites in the world.

Only one symbol for the many faces of the city are the name changes - Mumbai was the British Bombay, and in 1995 not only was the whole city given back its original Indian name, but also several British street names were changed.

But the old ones are still as present as the many monuments and traditions left behind by the British.
